ReCAP Reading Room

ReCAP has a comfortable Reading Room to accommodate visitors wishing to consult ReCAP holdings on site. The Reading Room features study tables, PCs with internet access available for visitor use, and connections to accommodate visitor laptop computers.

Visitors with borrowing privileges from Columbia University, Columbia University Law Library, The New York Public Library or Princeton University are welcome to use ReCAP holdings on site by appointment. Appointments may be made by contacting the individual listed below who represents the library with which your borrowing privileges are associated. Appointments can normally be accommodated the next business day following the date on which the appointment is requested. ReCAP or Library staff will call to confirm your appointment.

Visiting hours are 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Please note that visits cannot be accommodated on weekends or on designated university holidays. On arrival, facility access permission will be granted only to visitors who present a valid photo ID confirming borrowing privileges from their affiliated member institution.

Please note that ReCAP is not a browseable open stack collection. Holdings are shelved by bar code and must be paged to the Reading Room. Visitors must submit a paging request through their local affiliated institution for the items they wish to consult at least one business day prior to their arrival. Please refer to your institution’s polices and procedures on requesting material from remote storage for instructions on how to proceed. All requested materials will be paged to the Reading Room and ready for use upon arrival. Paged material may be used in the Reading Room only; ReCAP is not authorized to circulate holdings of member institutions directly to library patrons. Visitors who wish to borrow materials from ReCAP must do so in accordance with the circulation polices and procedures of their affiliated institution.

Photocopying may be done on site at ten cents per page. Copies must be paid for in cash; photocopy vend cards cannot be accommodated.

Smoking is not permitted within the ReCAP facility. Eating and drinking are not permitted in the Reading Room. Visitors are welcome to use the ReCAP cafeteria which features a range of snack foods available from vending machines. ReCAP has no public telephones.
